Costa Rica Adventure
This field trip will take students on an adventurous educational tour of Southwest Costa Rica. The trip begins with a hike up the tallest mountain in Costa Rica, Cerro Chirripo, which offers students an invigorating journey that culminates with a vista of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans from a single point. From there, students will head for an extended stay at the Oro Verde Rainforest Reserve owned by the charming Duarte family. At this location, students will get to explore primary lowland rainforest that is bustling with incredible biodiversity alongside their biology teacher, who conducted field studies on poison dart frogs at this location in 2004. Students will then stay at Hacienda Baru, where they will get the unforgettable experience of ziplining through a tropical canopy in the company of toucans, iguanas, and monkeys of all kinds. We will end the trip with 3 days on a white sand beach perfect for snorkeling, surfing, and playing soccer with the local “ticos.” After one final day of exploring San Jose and buying the requisite souvenirs, we will fly home feeling a little bit more “pura vida” (the Costa Rican motto) than when we left.

Frequently Asked Questions
Have the instructors been there?
This will be Mr. Haigler's 8th time to Costa Rica, where he has spent more than a year cumulatively, has guided groups, and done in-depth biological study. He has been to every place on the itinerary and is passionate about the region. Allison Haigler has traveled and guided groups to Costa Rica 4 times. They both speak Spanish and are highly experienced International Guides.
Do I need Spanish skills?
No Spanish skills are necessary, but the trip will be much more interesting for those students who make an honest effort to speak Spanish to local people.
Are there scholarships?
At this time, we are not able to offer any scholarships. Students are highly encouraged to fundraise on their own. I am happy to guide them in this and offer ideas for how to pay the tuition.
Is it dangerous?
Costa Rica is the safest country in Central America and has a long history of hosting international tourists. It has a sophisticated infrastructure and healthcare system that makes it a wonderful destination for travelers.

You need to get one ASAP. Follow the directions on the State Department's Passport Application website.
